As I reflect on how far we have come and where we are headed, I cannot express how very grateful I am for all who have contributed to who we are today. As Sabine's Hallway celebrated its 14th anniversary, I want to take this moment to thank our clients, vendors, staff and families for helping us get this far. Now that we are in our teenage years, there is still a lot of maturing to do. To that end, we are thankful to have both experience and youth on our side, giving us room to transition and grow through the challenges that lie ahead. During the current state of the world, we are truly appreciative of being able to educate, serve, and empower the community for the last 14 years and for many years to come.
When Governor Cuomo closed businesses earlier this year in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, I kept thinking about all the lost opportunities and I started to sink into a depression. I soon learned that I was not alone, I decided to change my attitude and focus on how I could use the time productively. Later, when the West Indian Day Parade was cancelled to help control the spread of COVID-19 throughout the city, I was inspired to use our virtual platforms to highlight Caribbean-American culture and contributions to our Brooklyn communities. Working with local artists and community leaders, I produced a documentary special, Culture and Beauty Beyond COVID-19, showcasing all the West Indian community has to offer.
